While delivering his speech, Prabowo highlighted that the NDB was established with the aim of financially supporting sustainable development projects, particularly in developing ...

Air strike kills senior Hamas official in Gaza

Image
An Israeli air strike in the southern city of Khan Younis in Gaza has killed top Hamas political leader Salah al-Bardaweel, a Hamas official told the BBC early on Sunday. Locals say the air strike killed both Bardaweel, a member of the group's political office, and his wife. Israeli officials had no immediate comment. Israel's military resumed significant strikes on Gaza on Tuesday, blaming Hamas, abandoning a ceasefire agreement that began on 19 January and ended almost two months of calm. Hamas rejected the Israeli accusations and, in turn, accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement that was signed and brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the US. An official in the Hamas-run health ministry said 32 Palestinians had been killed over the past 24 hours across various parts of the Gaza Strip. In a statement, Hamas said Bardaweel had been praying along with his wife when an Israeli missile struck their tent, according to Reuters news agency. Previously a spokesperson for Hamas ...

University lecturer develops IoT-based chicken coop system

Image
A lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Science at Brawijaya University, Danung Nur Adli Spt., MSc., MPt, has developed an integrated chicken coop system to increase the potential productivity of broiler chickens. The system uses the Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile apps. "This is called real-time technology service for chickens. The goal is to increase the productivity of broiler chickens," Danung said in Malang, East Java The innovation was initiated in 2019, when he began designing ways to use technology in traditional chicken coops with an open model to assign economic value to male chicks that are often viewed as waste. "In the past, we did not know what to do with the male chicks. They were usually raised to be sold as broiler chickens," he said. In 2024, his design received a funding grant for further development from Brawijaya University. The IoT-based chicken coop is also designed to provide an alternative to more sophisticated technology, such as TempTron...

Starmer's ad hoc alliance could still struggle to materialise

Image
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer says a "huge amount" has happened since his "coalition of the willing" idea first surfaced at his Lancaster House summit a fortnight ago. He is not wrong: US-Ukrainian relations have been on a rollercoaster since then, culminating in the meeting in Riyadh earlier this week, where the two sides agreed on a 30-day ceasefire. But Sir Keir's coalition is a big, still somewhat nebulous undertaking, and there is clearly a great deal of work to be done before this ad hoc alliance is ready to take on something as complex – and potentially perilous – as keeping the peace in Ukraine. Sir Keir says the coalition is now bigger and that "new commitments" are on the table, though he did not spell these out. Participants of Saturday morning's virtual summit, he said, had agreed to keep military aid flowing to Ukraine and tighten restrictions on the Russian economy, to weaken Russian President Vladimir Putin's war machine....

United State launches wave of air strikes on Yemen's Houthis

Image
The US has launched a "decisive and powerful" wave of air strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen, President Donald Trump has said, citing the armed group's attacks on shipping in the Red Sea as the reason. "Funded by Iran, the Houthi thugs have fired missiles at US aircraft, and targeted our Troops and Allies," Trump wrote on his Truth social platform, adding that their "piracy, violence, and terrorism" had cost "billions of dollars" and put lives at risk. The Houthi-run health ministry said at least 13 people were killed and nine others injured in the strikes. The group - which began targeting shipping in response to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza - said its forces would respond to US strikes. In a statement, the Houthis blamed the US and the UK for "wicked" aggression targeting residential areas in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa - though it is understood that the UK was not behind Saturday's strikes on the Middle Eastern country. The Ir...

Football transfer rumours: Arsenal make Arteta sack decision; Bayern consider Neymar

Image
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will not find his job pressurised by the arrival of incoming sporting director Andrea Berta. (Football Insider) Berta will push Arsenal in the direction of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez after he previously tried to sign the Argentine for Atletico Madrid. (Football Insider) Manchester United could turn their striker pursuit towards FC Porto goal-machine Samu Aghehowa (formerly known as Samu Omorodion), who has a release clause worth £84m written into his contract. (GIVEMESPORT) Chelsea will prioritise a move for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo over potential deals for Man Utd's Alejandro Garnacho and Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens. (Simon Phillips) Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, a long-term target for Barcelona, has given a move to Arsenal the green light. (Todofichajes - Spain) Barcelona may have to offer Ronald Araujo to Newcastle United if they want to push ahead with a deal to sign Bruno Guimaraes. (El Nacional - Spain) Manchester Ci...

Warren Buffett Is Selling Bank of America and Citigroup Stock and Is Piling

Image
In his February letter to shareholders, Warren Buffett announced a new record Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A) (NYSE: BRK.B) set in 2024: It paid more in taxes than any company ever paid the U.S. government in a single year. And that's despite significantly lower tax rates in recent years than throughout the history of Berkshire Hathaway. Of course, paying a big tax bill means you earned a lot of money for your investors. For Berkshire Hathaway, though, much of those earnings came in the form of capital gains on the sale of publicly traded equities. In total, Buffett and his fellow portfolio managers sold $143 billion worth of stock from Berkshire's portfolio. That resulted in $101.1 billion in taxable gains, dwarfing any amount the company realized in the past as well as its normal operating income. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Learn More » The fourth quarter saw Buffett sell off s...

Bayern Munich plot sale of Liverpool target to finance record-breaking buy

Image
Bayern Munich and Kingsley Coman have agreed to part ways in the summer so that the Bavarian behemoths can finance a move for the much sought-after Florian Wirtz, according to a report in Germany. The French forward has been a very useful squad player for Bayern over the past decade. Only once in the previous nine seasons has Coman started more than half of the club's league fixtures, yet he routinely produces a steady stream of goals and assists. Coman has again been largely used deployed as a substitute this season by Vincent Kompany - emerging off the bench on an unrivalled 17 occasions across all competitions - yet still boasts eight direct goal involvements in the Bundesliga (scoring and creating four goals). Only four Bayern players can better that tally. Nevertheless, the player and club have both decided on a sale this summer according to Sky Sport Germany. Bayern would be willing to listen to offers of between €30-40m (£25-34m) and have received initial contact from Liv...

Speaker Johnson unveils bill to fund the government through September 30

Image
House Speaker Mike Johnson formally unveiled plans on Saturday for a government funding stopgap through September 30 — a measure intended to stave off a potential March 14 shutdown and buy time for Donald Trump and GOP leaders to steer key pieces of the president’s agenda through Congress this summer. But Democrats’ top spending leaders quickly slammed the door on supporting the measure, raising the specter of a high-stakes clash next week. The president himself on Saturday endorsed the measure, which includes some cuts to domestic spending programs that Democrats will likely oppose. GOP leadership aides said Saturday that it would increase defense spending by about $6 billion while domestic spending would drop by about $13 billion. And while GOP leadership aides stressed that the plan includes no partisan policy add-ons, it does include certain White House funding requests, such as some new money intended to help carry out additional deportations by Immigration and Customs Enfor...

Real Madrid 2-1 Atletico Madrid: Player ratings as holders edge first leg

Image
Real Madrid edged the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against capital rivals Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Tuesday night. It didn't take long for this eagerly anticipated tie to burst into life as Rodrygo broke the deadlock inside four minutes with an emphatic left-footed effort after bursting in behind Javi Galan. The Brazilian was the star of the show in the opening stages with the hosts starting the far better of the two teams. However, Atletico did start to find somewhat of a groove after 20 minutes, and they forced Federico Valverde into a superb back-post clearance from a dangerous Giuliano Simeone cross. The visitors then restored parity on the night thanks to a wonderful strike from the in-form Julian Alvarez, who channelled his inner Harry Kane from the March 2016 north London derby - only he didn't have a mask to whip off in celebration. The pendulum swung back in Madrid's favour at the start of the second half as Brahim Diaz placed an excellent fi...

Where are they now? Inter Miami’s XI from Lionel Messi’s debut in 2023

Image
It’s over 18 months since Lionel Messi made his iconic debut for Inter Miami and in that time the MLS outfit have undergone quite the transformation. Luis Suarez is among the star names that have been drafted in to help Messi’s Inter Miami compete at the top end of North American soccer. The Galactico policy has proved successful, with David Beckham’s newly-formed club winning their first Supporters’ Shield last year. Messi, in true style, marked his debut against Mexican side Cruz Azul with a last-minute winner, a peach of a free-kick. But what became of the Inter Miami side that featured in that 2-1 Leagues Cup victory? We’ve revisited the starting XI and checked in on where every player is today, a year and a half later. GK: Drake Callender Callender has been with Inter Miami since their formation and remains at the club today. The 27-year-old is yet to make his international debut for the United States, but he did receive a call-up and trained with Gregg Berhalter’s squad for...

Neymar Makes a Comeback in Brazil's Preliminary Squad for World Cup Qualifiers Against Colombia

Image
Neymar , who recently returned to Santos after a short stint in Saudi football, is the standout name in Brazil's preliminary squad for the South American qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina in March, announced this Friday by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Other intriguing names in coach Dorival Júnior's preliminary list include Antony (Real Betis), Endrick (Real Madrid), and Samuel Lino (Atlético de Madrid), along with two familiar faces: Lucas Moura and Oscar (São Paulo). Neymar hasn't played for the Canarinha since October 2023, when he suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in his left knee during a World Cup 2026 qualifier against Uruguay in Montevideo. After his first month back at Santos, the number 10 said he feels "better physically," "more relaxed," and hopes to don the national team jersey again soon. "It's always been a huge honor for me to represent the national team," he said last Sunday after scoring the first Ol...

Marco Asensio steals show to keep Aston Villa on trophy trail

Image
Unai Emery endured one of his lowest moments at Aston Villa in the FA Cup and this competition is now emerging as a top priority in the club’s unpredictable season. In Emery’s first campaign he was stunned by Stevenage, then of League Two, while Villa have suffered other embarrassments in recent times against Swansea City, Peterborough United and Sheffield United. Cardiff City will not be joining the list of lower-league giant-killers and Villa are in the quarter-finals for the first time in a decade, dreaming of making some history under their Basque manager. Villa required a loan player from Paris St-Germain, Marco Asensio, to finally break the resistance of the Championship club with two goals in 12 minutes. Job done for Emery and Villa, who will be desperate to repeat their achievement in 2015, when they reached a Wembley final. With Villa’s recent results in the Premier League proving so maddening, this feels like a big opportunity. Emery views the FA Cup as an avenue to co...
