'Replant, start again, and make it yours': How to garden like Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson has become a beacon of natural beauty since her famous no-make up appearance on the red carpet in 2023. But it's not just her beauty regime which she's stripped back to basics; Pamela now regularly advocates for the power of spending time in nature and, specifically, the joy of gardening,

On Instagram, the Hollywood star shares regular glimpses into her garden and what she's been growing - from crops in neat rows, to deep, well-stocked planters and carefully divided sections either side of a wide path, which lead to a seated area. She also has fruit and vegetable patches alongside lush, decorative plants and bushes.

To find out how we can all channel Pamela's example, we spoke to Joe Carey, whose garden 'The Addleshaw Goddard: Freedom To Flourish Garden' (co-designed with his wife, Laura) won gold medal at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.

'Sectioning out the garden with planters like Pamela has means you can get more from your space. It maximises your growing potential, especially if you want to harvest your own fruit and veg,' says garden designer Joe. 'She also uses raised planting which saves lots of bending and can also help with pests and diseases. It means you can grow ornamental plants among edible and structural plants for year-round interest. This gives the look of a working garden, whilst keeping some of the magic and atmosphere of a more curated space.'

As well as an organised and functional space, it's clear Pamela finds much deeper meaning in her gardening. In a caption alongside her most recent post, for instance, she wrote, 'I think of life as a garden… You get to replant, start again, and make it yours'. Meanwhile on her birthday she wrote, 'there’s no place I’d rather be', referring to spending time expanding her garden.

'If you tend to a garden it will tend to you,' says Joe. 'The slow rhythm of gardening is something we have been talking about a lot in recent years. The busy nature of life is offset when you have to tend to the needs of a garden. It realigns your pace with nature and teaches you to wait for things.'

In fact, the theme of Joe and Laura's gold-winning garden at Chelsea this year was 'nature is never in a hurry, yet everything is accomplished'.

Pamela regularly shares snaps of the edible crops she's grown and harvested, including the dishes she makes out of them - from tomatoes and basil to apples and strawberries.

If you're looking to grow your own food in your garden, Joe has some tips on how to make the most of your harvest and protect the plants naturally. 'Growing herbs and scented flowers around the base of apple trees will likely produce a better yield,' he says. 'Chives are know for preventing apple scan and they deter deer and rabbits. Lavender also attracts pollinators and some stronger scents are known to deter pests of fruiting plants.'
