Kobbie Mainoo wants Man Utd transfer as furious fans turn on Ruben Amorim
Kobbie Mainoo wants to leave Manchester United after finding himself falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim.
Mainoo, 20, was an unused substitute in both of United's opening two Premier League games - in which Amorim's side have failed to pick up a win against Arsenal and Fulham.
He has struggled to earn his place in the starting side after being sidelined by an injury at the start of Amorim's tenure. According to The Guardian, United would countenance a suitable deal - but Mainoo might have a lack of suitors this late in the window.
Mainoo was a breakout star for United last season - even earning a spot in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 plans. However, Amorim believes he doesn't have the attributes to play in his 3-4-3 system.
And United fans have been left furious by Amorim's decision.
"Sack him now. OMG," one fan fumed on X, formerly known as Twitter. While a second said: "Can see this turning into a big problem for Amorim if true..."
"He could do a decent job at Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton or West Ham," a third posted. As a fourth said: "How he can’t get a game before Casemiro or Bruno in midfield I’ll never know!"
And another added: "Ain't no way Kobbie Mainoo leaves...United fans are going to riot!"
Mainoo could finally be handed a start when United begin their Carabao Cup campaign away to Grimsby Town on Wednesday.
Ahead of the second-round tie, Amorim insisted that players must 'fight for the places' in his team but reiterated that opportunities 'for everybody' will come.
"They just need to fight for the places, and then everything can change," the Red Devils boss, who held his pre-Grimsby news conference after the Fulham game, said.
"Sometimes one is playing, in other moments, other guys are going to play, and we have the cups, so we're going to have a lot of games for everybody."
