Moment $400 million Russian submarine hit by underwater drones
Ukraine say they have hit and disabled a $400 million Russian submarine with underwater drones.
Footage shows the Varshavyanka docked at Novorossiysk, a port on the Black Sea in southern Russia.
There is then a large explosion as the vessel is hit.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced today (Dec 16): “For the first time in history, Ukraine’s Security Service, together with the Ukrainian Navy, struck and disabled a russian Kilo-class (Project 636.3 “Varshavyanka”) submarine in Novorossiysk using underwater drones.”
“The cost of a Varshavyanka-class submarine is approximately $400 million,” they added.
The Varshavyanka is a diesel-electric stealth Russian attack submarine renowned for its low detectability.
